Infused with history and legends, Andhra Pradesh has the distinction of
being the fifth largest state of India. The state breathes history perhaps
in each of its cities. Dynasties like Mauryas, Pallavas, Cholas and
Vijanagar took shape here, leaving behind a legacy that the whole country is
proud of. Hundreds and thousands of tourists flock to the cities like
Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Warangal, Tirupati and Vishakhapatnam.
Hyderabad, the capital of the state, was the seat of the Qutub Shahi
Dynasty in the 16th century. The rulers of the time, specially Quli Qutub
Shah, put forth such an iconic structure as the Charminar and the Golconda
Fort. Museum, temples, art galleries and parks abound in the city. However,
the city today has accepted the modern day advancements. Places like
Tirupati, Vijaywada and Warangal have a great deal to offer in terms of
architectural as well as cultural attractions. While on one hand,
Vishakhapatnam is the state's main port and is home to the Indian Navy's
Eastern Naval Command, on the other Vijaywada is a chief trading centre.
Warangal comes as the oldest city of state with a history dating as long
back as 800 years.
Telugu is the official language of the state. Urdu and Hindi are also
widely spoken. The coastal Andhra cuisine is the spiciest in the country.
Pickles and chutneys of the state are mostly popular among visitors.
Hyderabadi Biryani is perhaps a hot favourite with tourists. However, one
can find here foods ranging from the very traditional to the most exotic.
Multi-cuisine restaurants have sprung up all across the city.
